Koinonia’s is immediately after Church from 11a to 12p at the Church House.... There a lot going on this year! Here are some of the events that will be getting us through February.
Regular stuff -
Jenny Montgomery and Keith Tan have both agreed to stay on at Christ Church. Both Keith and Jenny originally agreed to serve at Christ Church through the beginning of June, 1999. During the last month, both have accepted calls to stay on at Christ Church at least through June of 2000. As well, Keith will be coming on full-time to help meet the music needs of the congregation. Blessings to you, Jenny and Keith. It’s great news to have you staying!
Helen Simpson, a member of the Christ Church congregation, was accepted as a postulant for holy orders by Peter Lee, the Bishop of Virginia, on Friday, January 8, 1999. To be accepted as postulant is the first step in the process toward becoming a priest in the Episcopal Church. Helen began a period of intensive discernment in January 1997, meeting with Paul and with an ordination committee comprised of persons from the Christ Church congregation. She interviewed with the Diocesan Commission on Ministry in November, 1998, receiving from that body a strong endorsement of her gifts for ministry. Bishop Lee accepted the endorsement of the Commission, and in his interview with Helen and her husband, Bill, on January 8 accepted her as a postulant in the Diocese of Virginia. Helen continues her preparation at this time by applying to seminary, looking to matriculate this fall. Acceptance as a postulant means Helen would be ordained a deacon no earlier than June of 2003, and priest no earlier than December of 2003.
Congratulations Helen, and blessings to you and Bill. Thanks to Helen’s Vestry Ordination Committee: John Hinckley, Gray Glass, Jim Madden, Ashley Reckford, Bill Sydnor, Rob Richardson, Deb Dysko, and Sheri Wilkie.
The Christ Church Nominating Committee has selected the following three members for the Vestry. Their names will be forwarded to Bishop Lee.
Dale D’Alessandro — Dale grew up in the Episcopal Church and is from a family active in the work of the Diocese of Virginia. With his family, Dale has been part of Christ Church since the early planning stages of our life. He has been an active leader in the Set-Up Ministry from our first worship service, and for three years served as the primary overseer of that ministry. He is also currently the leader of a Small Group fellowship meeting every other Friday night. As well, Dale has served in several other occasional ministries throughout the life of Christ Church. In the community, Dale has served as Scout Master for the troop operating out of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. Dale and his wife, Debbie, have two sons, Michael and Mark.
Louanna Heuhsen — Louanna has been part of Christ Church since its first worship service in September of 1993. During her time at Christ Church, Louanna has served as a Sunday School shepherd, worked with the Sunday Summer Vacation Bible School, and has assisted in the training of Sunday School shepherds. As well, Louanna leads a Small Group Fellowship, has helped in the planning and presentation of Adult Forums, served on the Land and Building Process Group, and is a member of the Next Steps Team. Louanna’s daughter, Miriam, is in graduate school at Duke University.
Brock Vaughn — Brock has been part of the Christ Church community since 1995, and was received into the Episcopal Church in April, 1997. He has served in a variety of ministries: usher, Adult Forum teacher, lay worship leader, and actively supported Christ Church’s CARITAS effort and Imagine...campaign. Since 1997 he has led the Adult Forum and Education ministry, and currently is part of the Next Steps Team focusing on Adult Ministry. He is part of the Reckford study group. Formerly a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church, Brock has also served on local boards for Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, and United Way. in prayer.
From January 1 - May 23, 1999 we
are asking you to sign up for one day to pray for Christ Church, one another
and our Next Steps together. The monthly sign-up board is located in the
rotunda and you will be mailed a prayer booklet with a reminder of

Give Kay Holmes a call at 360-2940 if you would like to help with the planning or if you have any questions.
And with the addition of IMAGINE Contributions, the tellers'
job has become a bit more complicated. To insure that your contribution
is recorded accurately, please consider some of the following guidelines
when making your contribution to Christ Church.
Imagine Report: The Imagine capital contributions
were significantly behind schedule. Our offerings are crucial, especially
now that actual construction has begun.
Imagine Payments...
All checks should be made payable to Christ Church, not IMAGINE. Please be sure to designate in the memo section that the check is for IMAGINE. If using IMAGINE envelopes, please write your name on the envelope. If transferring stocks, contact Heather Miller.
Heather Miller will become the new Treasurer at Christ Church beginning in January. Heather can be reached by telephone at 360-3198 or by e-mail at mmagoo@aol.com.
